hiya! I'm Astra and you might be interested in how I do things. I start by taking notes and exploring an idea by mapping out the concepts, characters, world, etc. Then I brainstorm and play with scenarios: I put the pieces in action and ask myself, what would they do? what would they say? Lastly, I produce draft after draft, getting down the form, producing an information skeleton of details without the final touches- just getting it together- then I iterate on how to present those details more eloquently, and finally, submit it for review. You might be wondering, is my process different between professional and personal work? A little! See...
Personally, I try to explore many different formats for the same narrative exercise, because different modalities yield different narrative impacts. Professionally, experimentation occurs on my oen time, the deliverable as requested is always prioritized. But, seek experimentation and you shall receive! Which is perfect for projects looking for an indie feel! With a history of creating in many mediums, from prose to journalism, videos, sound, poetics, and research, there's a lot you and I can do to evoke that story!
About my experience: I've worked on a cyberpunk metroid-vania game with 13 other people called Sect-Machina working as a narrative designer, writing item descriptions, documentation, NPC dialogue, implementing said dialogue into the engine, and editing. I've also worked on an immersive, thoughtful visual novel called Unwrite Your Past with two others as the game designer, artist, character designer, and story writer. I've also worked on an exploration shooter called Kittens With Cannons with five others, as a narrative consultant and a quest designer giving feedback to the team. For the last six months, I've been working on a game by myself in Twine, it's a bit of a Sci-Fi Literary Labyrinth; all the writing, game design, character design, and narrative design has been up to me to create and manage.
There's a lot we can do together! Lemme know if you agree by emailing me: astramodal@outlook.com. Thanks! Signed, Astra.
